How MelanatedKindred works
MelanatedKindred is a place to find Black-owned businesses and get to know the people who run them. It is also a community. You can follow your neighbors, share posts, and send each other messages. Here is what that looks like from the first day.
Make an account
There are two kinds. A personal account is for people. A business account is for owners who want a page for their business. You choose when you sign up. You need to be 18 or older, and it costs members nothing.
Find businesses near you
Search by category, like food, beauty or home services, and by place. Open a business page to see what they do, where they are, their website and their latest posts.
Follow, and show your support
Follow a business and its updates show up in your feed. Tap Support to say you stand behind it. Supporters appear on the business page, so the next person can see who already trusts it.
Say hello
Use Find People to meet other members, and send a message to anyone you would like to talk to. Some members mark themselves as open to mentoring, which makes it easy to ask for advice.
Decide who sees what
You choose whether your profile is visible to all members or only to the people who follow you. You can block someone or report a post at any time. More on that is on our Safety page.
Works on your phone
MelanatedKindred runs in your browser on any phone or computer, so there is nothing to download. You can add it to your home screen and it opens like an app.
